Our nightstand is designed to have a sleek, modern look that complements our "Sutro Lamp" with similar angled legs. It offers storage with two fixed shelves and a drawer with fully hidden hardware, or an option for an open cabinet with 19-inch rack-mount rails. It is available in a variety of woods, and the height of the box on top is customizable.

Afrormosia is an African hardwood sometimes referred to as African teak. Highly rot-resistant and durable, completed pieces have a smooth and even surface thanks to its closed, fine grain.

Black Walnut is a domestic hardwood known for its attractiveness, strength, and stability. Very commonly used in American furniture, its partially open grain leaves a slight texture once finished.

Cherry

Cherry is a domestic hardwood that develops a rich reddish-brown patina as it ages. Known for its durability, it is very commonly used in American furniture and buildings and its closed grain becomes an even texture when finished.

Leopardwood

Leopardwood is a South American hardwood sometimes called lacewood. It has a unique appearance and its partially open pore structure gives a slight texture once finished.

Purpleheart

Purpleheart is a South and Central American hardwood. Its bright purple color slowly deepens into a dark brown with UV exposure and is known for its excellent strength and durability.

Sugar Maple

Sugar Maple is a domestic hardwood and the strongest, stiffest, and hardest species of Maple. Sugar Maple generally has a straight, closed grain and becomes very smooth once finished.

White Oak

White Oak is a domestic hardwood with a similar texture and appearance to Red Oak. Like Red Oak, it is widely used in American furniture but offers greater strength and durability.

Wenge is an African hardwood with excellent strength, hardness, and durability in addition to its striking appearance. Finished pieces have a generally smooth and even texture.

What woods do people typically choose?

Our most popular species (see more on the Materials page) are Red Oak, White Oak, Black Walnut, European Beech, Purpleheart, and Wenge. These are all durable, attractive, and classic choices. You can also mix two species in a single piece.
